Good Morning Everyone,

Happy first day of home instruction!  In order to communicate back and forth as easily as possible, we will be using a Google extension called Google Chat.  Please follow these steps to join our class on this tool:

1. Download Google Hangouts Chat.

2. Click the "+" in the bottom right corner and choose "Browse Rooms."

3. Your class will be titled either "Mrs. King's Period 2-3" or "Mrs. King's Period 5-6."

Select the class you are in.

4. From here, you should be in our "room" on Google Hangouts Chat.
PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE USING GOOGLE HANGOUTS CHAT.  
WE ARE NOT USING GOOGLE MEET YET.

Use this to ask any questions you have during the time we are out of school.

You work for each day will be posted on this website (kingenglish7and8.blogspot.com).

Google Chat is for our daily communication regarding our class and anything else you want to communicate with me and your classmates about.  Please remember, everything you write is recorded.  Please act as if you were in our actual classroom and be polite and respectful at all times.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME AT ANY TIME BUT I WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO COMMIT TO RESPONDING TO YOU BETWEEN 8:30am-12:30pm EACH DAY.  I WILL TRY TO LOG ON EACH EVENING, BUT I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET RIGHT BACK TO YOU. I WILL DO MY BEST TO STAY IN TOUCH WITH EVERYONE.  PLEASE REACH OUT TO ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS, CONCERNS OR ISSUES.  I WILL GET BACK TO YOU IMMEDIATELY BETWEEN 8:30-12:30, and ASAP BEFORE AND AFTER THAT TIME PERIOD.

Assignment List 1 for Monday, March 16, 2020

To Do List for today's English class:

1.  Grammar Work on the grammar Mixed Practice Assignment on 

NoRedInk.com.  Master at least one lesson by today.  

(Some students are already ahead on this, so you may not need to do this step).

2. Literature

     7th Graders:  

     a. Read chapter 9 of The Outsiders: The Outsiders full text.

     b. Answer the chapter 9 questions in The Outsiders packet.

     You need to type your answers in the document titled, 

      "The Outsiders Ch.9 Questions" on Google Classroom.  

     c. Press "Turn In" when you are done. 

    

     8th Graders: Complete the assignment on CommonLit.org.

      Directions: 

      a. Read the poem, "This is Not a Small Voice."

      b. As you read answer the Guiding Questions.

      c. Make at least two annotations as you read.

      d. Answer the Assessment Questions.

      e. Write at least 5 sentences to respond to the Discussion Question: 

            "Why do you think it’s important for the speaker to assert 

             that their voice and feelings are not small? Does the author 

             hint at either being oppressed or denied in the text?"

3.  Reading

    7th & 8th Graders:

    a. Read your SSR book for at least 20 minutes.  

   b. Update what page you are on on GoodReads.com. 

   *If you can't get on GoodReads, email kking@bogotaboe.com 

    w/ the page you're on and the title of your book.

    c. Write a reading log. (This sheet was handed out on 3/12 & 3/13).

HW: 

Finish any of the above that you did not finish for today's English class.

The CommonLit assignment is due tomorrow, 3/17.
