Period 2-3
Objectives:
I can understand vocabulary terms from chapters 1-4 of Freak The Mighty.
I can answer reading comprehension questions about the novel Freak The Mighty.
I can participate in a discussion about the novel Freak The Mighty.


1. SSR
2. Go over #8, 9 & 10 (last night's HW)
3. Chapters 1-4 Vocabulary Page (introduce and discuss)
-Complete vocabulary page
3. Discuss and complete  chapter 1-4 questions.  Read chapter 4 as a class.
4. Complete chapters 1-4 questions with a partner or independently.

HW: SSR & Complete Chapter 1-4 questions, Complete Vocab. page (if you haven't already)

Period 5-6
Objectives:
-I can use three of the basic "elements of literature," to plan a compare and contrast essay body paragraph.
-I can identify similarities and differences within the novel Gone by Michael Grant and The Maze Runner movie and record them in a graphic organizer.
-I can write a body paragraph using my graphic organizer and an example paragraph.

Self-assess:
On a scale of 0-3, how well do you think you can write a compare and contrast essay?
What about a complete body paragraph with all of the required parts?

Do Now: 1. Take 2 copies of the Story Map sheet.  (Label one The Maze Runner.  Label the other Gone.)     2.  Complete the Story Map sheet.

Introduction:  Based on what you wrote, choose three elements of literature from the Story Map sheet.
In your own words, define each term you chose.  You will write in this chart.

Part I:
1.  We will watch The Maze Runner trailor as you complete the chart.
2.  We will read a few different excerpts from Gone.
Highlight text evidence you want to use for your essay.
Remember, you will only want to include information about the three elements of literature that you chose!
3. We will share what we wrote in our graphic organizers.

Part I:  How to write the body paragraph
-Sign into Google on a chrome book.
-Go to google drive and click on "shared with me"
- Open model essay (Your copy will have your name on it.)
Close the chrome book and look up at the SMART Board.
-What to include in the body paragraph
-Example of a body paragraph.
-Open your chrome book and begin writing your body paragraph on the
