November 30-December 4

Monday, November 30, 2015
Today we will review examples of personal narratives written by other students.
1. We will discuss the parts of a personal narrative.
2. We will begin to brainstorm topics for our own personal narrative.

Vocabulary:
-Lesson 1-5 review to create game.
Homework:    1.finish vocabulary review cards (15 cards by tomorrow)
                       2.choose personal narrative topic and print out example essay

Tuesday, December 1, 2015
 Today we will write personal narratives based on an example of another writer's personal narrative.
1. Read and discuss each example.
Answer the questions:
          -What specifically is the writer doing in the introduction?
          -What is happening in the first body paragraph?
          -What is the writer's purpose?
*After reading each paragraph, model your paragraph based on the example.

2. Choose from examples 1, 2 and 3.
-Which example would be best for you to model your personal narrative after?
Homework: Work on personal narrative.  First two paragraphs are due tomorrow.

Wednesday, December 2, 2015
Today we will spend half of the class working on our personal narratives.
We will spend the second half of class doing center work:
Centers:
1. Editing
2. Reading Comprehension
3. Writing
4. Vocabulary
Homework: complete center work and/or work on personal narrative.  Essay is due tomorrow.  You will need your essay in order to participate in peer editing activity.

Thursday, December 3, 2015
Today we will have our third grammar mini lesson on using "their."
Today we will complete our center work on previously learned skills (if you have not done so already).
We will go to the library to work on our personal narrative essays and meet with Mrs. King.

Friday, December 4th, 2015
1. Grammar review:  "they're"  "there"  and  "their" mini quiz
2. Set up Chrome books and headphones for reading.
Teacher will model how to complete activity on guided reading questions.
Students will work with partners while reading, listening and answering questions.
3. 7th Grade: Begin reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
8th Grade:  Begin reading Flowers For Algernon.

Homework: Over the weekend log into Google and check your essay for the suggestions I've made.  Edit your essay as needed.

1. As a class we will explore the Prezi website and how to create a Prezi Presentation Project.
2. Prezi Grading rubric and expectations
3. You will then practice creating your own Prezi based on any topic you'd like using the chromebooks.
4. You will then begin creating a Prezi based on the lesson 6 vocabulary INSTEAD of taking a test.
5. You will present your Prezi to the class on Monday.  USE THE GRADING RUBRIC AS YOU ARE WORKING ON YOUR PREZI!!!

-Identify and discuss the Words of the Wiser signpost using Excerpts from "Riding Freedom" by Pam Munoz Ryan.
-Work in pairs while playing a game to identify as many signposts as possible.
Check for understanding: When we find a Words of the Wiser signpost, we ask ourselves:
"How could this advice affect the character?"
Closure: Where do you think you are on the Learning Scale?  Give yourself a number on the Post-It note and please hand to me when you are dismissed.

Remember:
*Personal narrative essay is due tomorrow 11/12. As you complete it, you are also reflecting upon a life lesson you learned as the characters did in today’s lesson on Signpost #4!

First we will take our grammar guided-assessment on types of sentences and the subject and predicate of a sentence.

Today we will discuss the six main reasons to write.  We will begin planning our essays on personal narratives.  We will look at an example of a personal narrative and then get to work on our own essays in class.  Our five-paragraph rough drafts will be due on Wednesday, November 4th.

Period 5-6:  Today we will use our Venn diagrams to begin writing our compare and contrasts essays of The Landlady story and The Landlady Movie.  We will look at an example of a compare and contrast essay and then get to work on our own essays during class.  Our five-paragraph rough drafts will be due on Wednesday, November 4th.
