Period 2-3

Do Now

-Get a chrome book and log in.  

-Open up your reading log for this week on Google Classroom.  
-Right-click and choose "add row below" so you have a space to do your homework SSR Log.
-Type in the time you start reading and the page you start reading on.
-Read your SSR book until the timer goes off. 
*Mrs. King will be checking last night's HW while you are reading.

To Do:
1. Write your reading log when the timer goes off.


2. Signpost #1 Contrasts and Contradictions

-Copy down the notes into the Reading section of your binder.
-We will watch the short film The Present.
-Despicable Me clip
-C&C Comercial


3. We will read "Thank You Ma'am" by Langston Hughes.


4. Find the C&C signpost

HW:
-Read your SSR book for 30 minutes and write an SSR log on Google Classroom.
-Find and highlight or underline examples of the C&C signpost in "Miss Awful."

*When you have a Google Classroom assignment you need to press "Turn In.*Make sure you have rated at least 20 books on GoodReads.com.
*Make sure you are "friends" with Mrs. King on GoodReads.com so she can see your reading progress

Today we will review Signpost #1: Contrasts and Contradictions
-First, let's watch this: C&C Comercial.   
Can you explain the C&C that you saw?  
Write this down in the Reading Section of your binder.


3. We will read "Miss Awful" by Arthur Cavanaugh.
 (As you read, highlight and label C&Cs in the story.  Hint: There are a total of 4.)


4. Log into Quizlet and create a new study set using some new vocabulary words from "Miss Awful."  First, highlight each word as it is used in the story, then start making your Quizlet.  Some words have more than one meaning and you want to choose the same meaning that is used in the story.

Vocab. word list: torpor, throng, ominous, agape, garbed, garments, ruefully, compliance, pruning, whims, scrupulous, scrutinize, offspring, anecdote, bleat, console, idle, tolerate, latter, ramshackle, evict, lurid, vacate, infiltrate, remonstrate, industrious, mock & squander.

HW:
-Read your SSR book for 30 minutes and write an SSR log on Google Classroom.
-Find and highlight or underline examples of the C&C signpost in "Miss Awful."

-Work on your Miss. Awful Quizlet study set. (28 words total=28 cards total)
