Today we will read "Seventh Grade" by Gary Soto.
Before we read, let's look at the questions.
As we read, let's highlight any evidence that may help us answer the questions.

Objectives:
I can cite relevant textual evidence while following a specific format to prove my written answer.
I can appropriately read and discuss a middle school-level story with my class.

Example of what I expect when answering these questions:
Question: Is Perrault a tough character or a weak character? Answer the question and then provide two pieces of evidence (quotations) that prove your answer is correct.

Answer: Perrault is a tough character in this story. (Answer)  According to the text in chapter 3, Perrault “...took all manner of risks, resolutely thrusting his little weazened face into the frost and struggling on from dim dawn to dark” (London 39). He also, “...skirted the frownshores on rim ice that bent and crackled under foot and upon which they dared not halt” (39). (2x evidence) Both of these pieces of evidence show that Perrault isn’t afraid of the Klondike weather and he kept pushing on despite the dangers of nature. For many miles, Perrault had to figure out what ice was safe for the rest of the dog team and by doing so, he risked his own life by possibly falling into the river. (Explain the evidence)
