Period 5-6
1. Post-it note activity to introduce the concept of protesting.
"I speak out against it not in anger but with anxiety and sorrow in my heart, and above all with a passionate desire to see our beloved country stand as a moral example of the world." - Martin Luther King Jr., 1967
Martin Luther King Jr. wrote a letter from his Birmingham jail cell. In the letter, he explained his theory on what makes protest moral and effective. Today you will compare other protest movements to the tactics described by King in this letter.
Ask yourself:
What protest tactics are most effective?
What methods are not effective?
2. You'll read an MLK article and take the reading quiz on it.
3. Now you can pick an article that you're interested in.
The article must be about the topic of "protest" or "MLK."
Read it, and make annotations on it.
