Grammar Mini Lesson

Let's first go over last night's gramar homework (#1-3)

-Independent and Dependent Clauses: What are they?; Identifying them using our own sentences.
Notes:
dependent clause is a group of words that also contains a subject and a verb, but it is not a complete thought. Because it is not a complete thought, a dependent clause cannot stand on its own as a sentence; it is dependent on being attached to an independent clause to form a sentence.

Activity: 
1. Choose a few sentences from your personal narrative by highlighting each one.
2. Decide which part of the sentence "depends" on the other part.  
The dependent clause cannot stand alone.
The independent clause can stand alone.

Personal Narrative
-I can  identify areas of their personal narratives that require commas and/or end punctuation.
-I can identify independent and independent clauses in their writing to identify errors in their writing.

Mini-Quiz: Identifying dependent and independent clauses
Write down the sentences you see on the board.  
Be sure to write the proper heading and number each sentence.
LISTEN for the directions. 
This is worth a quiz grade so work diligently.

HW:
SSR
Revise and edit personal narrative; PRINT IT OUT b/c final copy is due tomorrow
Bring in writing celebration food that you signed up for.
