For extra practice if you finish the game early:
2.  Reading
Objective: To read actively and discuss several elements of fiction in the story, "The Scholarship Jacket" by Marta Salinas.  We will focus on how the author develops the first person narration by  drawing in readers, causing them to connect to the narrator and identify with the conflicts s/he faces.  We will read and discuss the first part of the story by answering the following questions verbally:
1. Who is the narrator?
2. Based on the details of the painting, how do you think the girl is feeling?  Why?
3. in lines 46-55; how does the argument between Mr. Schmidt and Mr. Boone make Martha feel?
4. Make an inference: Why is the principal unhappy? (by the bottom of p.228). 

Activity: "The Scholarship Jacket" by Marta Salinas
We will discuss our answers to the questions above, but write your answer to "D. First Person Point of View p.292" in a complete paragraph on a separate sheet of paper.

3. Writing & Poetry  (Work with Mrs. King/Ms. DeAngelis)
Objective: Identify the characteristics of different types of poems and create your own as you work though the writing process. 
Activity:  Discuss several different types of poems and work collaboratively and independently to write your own, based on your choice of poem style.
*We will present our poems today.

Homework: Independent Reading & Reading Log; Study Lesson 10 Vocab.
